A Short History of KCBC

As well as being firmly grounded in the teaching and redemptive work of our Saviour Jesus Christ, our church can trace its roots back to Gipsy Road Baptist Church in Gipsy Road, West Norwood.
In 1860, a non-denominational Sunday School was started in Paxton Yard, opposite the site of the current church building. Gradually, it came to be staffed by Baptists who met in a small building later known as Clive Hall in Clive Road,
at the time part of Hamilton Road. On 19th March 1879 a church was formed comprised of 16 members under the name “Hamilton Road Baptist Church.” However, this was the time when, due to the arrival of the railway, there was a
huge increase in the building of houses and consequently a population boom in the area and it was quickly realised that, in order to serve the expanding community, a larger building would be needed. A plot of land in Gipsy Road opposite Hamilton Road had been made available by Mr Richard Henry Marshall at a rent of £20 per annum and a decision was made to form a Building Committee for a new church. Worship & Pray, evangelise at home and abroad, nurture Christians, unify the membership, encourage and equip the congregation for Christian service.  Give pastoral care, support social actions at home and abroad.  Relate to Baptists and other Christians generally as beneficially as possible.
